At an event held a few minutes ago at London, Nokia took covers off its newest Windows Phone powered handset – the Lumia 925. Now for those of you expecting the Lumia 925 to be that all important successor to the Symbian laden 808 PureView which still remains the best camera phone ever – be prepared to be disappointed. The Lumia 925 is nothing more than a design update to the Lumia 920 – announced few months ago. Of course there are changes on the insides as well – but nothing major that would blow you away. Anyway, lets now take a quick look at the Lumia 925.
The first major thing you would notice about this phone is its all metal body. Until now, we have been used to seeing the Lumias underneath a polycarbonate shell and Nokia seems to have had enough of it. The Lumia 920 was flayed by its critics for being too chunky and having very understated looks and that is what the Lumia 925 wants to change. This device features an all aluminium body and has been slimmed to considerably measuring just 8.5 mm across, the Lumia 925 weighs 139 grams. Quite a difference compared to the 185 grams and 10.7 mm thick Lumia 920.
As far as the tech specs go, this one is basically the same as the Lumia 920. Under the hood, powering this phone is a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, ably supported with 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. The Lumia mind you, has 32 Gb of on-board memory. Only the Vodafone version of the Lumia 928 will gets the 32 GB option. Weird. The display size remains the same -but instead of an LCD, Nokia has decided to go with OLED technology this time. The display resolution at 1280*720 pixels remains the same as well. The camera unit on this phone happens to be the same as seen on the Lumia 920. The 8.7-megapixel PureView camera can capture videos in full HD as well. There is a front facing 1.2-megapixel camera as well. The Lumia 925 also gets Optical image stabilization as well as the dual-LED flash from its older sibling.
On the software front though, there are a few changes that include a new Nokia Smart Camera mode. This will however be available as an update to all Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 laden devices soon. Another addition is the availability of Hipstamatic’s new app, Oggl, that would soon be available on all Lumia devices. Oggl users can simultaneously share photos on social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, Flickr and Instagram.
The Lumia 925 will start selling staring June first in Asia and Europe followed by the US launch. The device would be priced at around 469 EUR before taxes and subsidies.
