Along with the launch of Nokia’s recently announced Symbian Belle powered handsets, the 700, 701 and the 600, Nokia also seems to be betting big time on the future of NFC Technology here in India. In an industry first, at least in India, the company has tied up with Shahrukh Khan to promote his latest flick, Ra-One using the NFC Technology supported by all three of these handsets.
How? Well the idea is to provide consumers with various Ra-One related services that will make use of the NFC chip embedded inside the phones. These include NFC ready posters which will have digital information embedded inside it for NFC enabled phones to decode and avail offers exclusive to them.
To start with, Nokia is giving consumers an opportunity to watch the movie one day ahead of its global release. They also get the option to access exclusive RaOne content from the OviStore. The best part about these is that all these are available for free. These NFC capable posters would be placed at strategic locations where people frequent and they can access content from them by simply tapping on to them. Nokia of course intends to monetize its NFC platform once the feature goes mainstream in the next few years.
Anyway, lest I forget, let me remind you that we did have a quick look at the handsets – but thanks to the 2 hour delay by the King Khan, we had to leave the place without actually getting enough time with the new phones. That said, we expect a review on these three phones very soon, so watch this space!
Nokia has also revealed the prices at which they will retail the handsets. As of now, only the Nokia 701 is on sale in the country. This has been priced at Rs. 18,999. The other two phones, the 600 and the 700 would retail for Rs. 12,999 and Rs.16,999 respectively when they are launched in early October.
