Nokia has bought its latest X Series handset, the rather weird looking X5 to India. This has happened a good five months after the phone was first seen in July. The X5 is a series 60 music oriented handset that features a slide out QWERTY keypad, and a 2.4 inch QVGA display. We had reported about an “unofficial launch” of the product a few days ago here
The design of the X5 is quite controversial and it might appeal only to a few people. We don’t find it ugly – just a bit unconventional. Oh and it sure will turn heads when you take it out of your pockets. The good old S60 UI on the device has been tweaked to look more contemporary, and supports various social networking widgets on the home page. Also, worth noticing are the Slide, Spin, Shake gestures!
Other features include a 5 megapixel camera with LED Flash. There is 200 MB of internal memory which is grossly inadequate. Therefore, you have the option to use micro SD cards of up to 16 GB. The phone ships with a 2GB card preloaded. Being an X Series device, it features a dedicated set of music playback buttons. Indian users also gets a free subscription to Ovi Music. Connectivity features include Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and USB 2.0. The phone offers 6-days on standby time and 24 hours of music playback.
The X5 can be bought for a shade below the 10k mark. The official price is Rs.10,499.
