While Nokia’s Lumia series of Windows Phone powered devices have been widely acclaimed to decent phones, there isn’t really much that will help Nokia distinguish its offerings from other crop of Windows Phone devices. True, there are services like SkyDrive and Nokia Maps that are available – but then these are services that are being offered exclusively with the phone – and not exclusive hardware features that the phone can boast of.
That might however change soon if Nokia’s plan to integrate PureView technology on to its Windows Phone offerings does turn out to be true.
In case you were in a cave for the past few days let’s remind you once again about Nokia’s new imaging technology called PureView. The technology which debuted on Nokia’s Belle toting 808 PureView handset uses a large 41 megapixel sensor to capture images at standard resolutions (8 mp, 5mp) – but with far greater detail that ever seen on a mobile phone. To not let users feel shortchanged after offering a device with a 41 megapixel sensor – but without the ability to capture images at that resolution, Nokia has thankfully given an option to capture images at 38 megapixels – a resolution which might give a few DSLR’s an inferiority complex.
Coming back to Nokia’s plans to integrate PureView on to Windows Phone handsets, a Nokia representative has in an email to Phonescoop revealed that the company is working to come up with PureView technology to its Lumia series. What is not known now is if the company has already started working on such a device and details as to when such a device would make its debut.
A few days ago, Nokia’s Jim Harlow too had made similar comments about PureView being made available on the Lumia range soon.
