Quick Review: Wynncom OGO O78 Touch

Pushmail OGO phone

After a long hiatus another Wyncomm phone has finally landed in our office and its called the Wyncomm OGO. The last time we encountered a Wyncomm handset was exactly a year back and it was their one of the highest selling Y50 which has faded into oblivion by now.
Coming back to the Wyncomm OGO it is another feature phone with a push mail service (wonder how much would that help when the likes of Micromax & Maxx have already adopted Android platform on their phones).

Specifications:

  • Display: 2.4” TFT Resistive Touch screen with 240 x 320 resolution
  • Optical Trackpad
  • 3 MP Camera
  • FM Radio with Recording

  • Social Networking, IM and Push email

In the Box:

The Wynncom OGO O 78 comes shipped with the following:

  • micro USB charger
  • an additional black colored back cover
  • a leather carry pouch
  • in-ear design earphones

Design & Performance:

Well the Wynncom OGO O78 Touch Phone sports a resistive 2.4” screen with a screen resolution of 240×320 pixels. The screen feels pretty dull and makes viewing in the daylight very difficult. The resistive touch screen proves to be a difficult task to operate and will take some time getting used to, though the bundled stylus makes life a little easier.

OGO Touch back

The phone also has a plastic build with an aluminum back cover which makes it look cheap. The front of the screen has only three buttons, of which the call and end buttons are touch and the center button is an optical trackpad. The trackpad is responsive enough and proves to be quite handy considering the average touch screen here. Sadly the phone comes bundled with a 128 MB memory card only (or maybe the review unit has only 128 mb) and is expandable up to 8GB.

The speakerphone is below average; though loud they are not clear making it difficult to understand the person on the other end during calls. Speakers for audio playback are really loud and good. Also their output quality is very good considering the price; so are the ear phones. Video playback on the phone is clear but cannot give you that high quality owing to the low resolution.

The phone has a 3MP camera with a dedicated camera button which will give you average snaps in broad daylight but the quality degrades when it comes to taking shots in dim light or night. Video quality is also below average.

Side

Setting up the push mail is a nightmare and it took us a very long time to set it up and get it working. It uses Synchronica UK’s Mobile Gateway messaging services. The other apps on the phone like Snaptu, Instant messaging are also little difficult to set up. But their functionality is poor and I must admit that they are really old versions which proves to be a pain to operate.

The battery on the phone is 1030mAh and it lasted us a day easily with approx 30 minutes of calls, around 2 hours of mp3 playback and surfing.

Verdict:

The Wynncom OGO 078 phone costs you Rs. 4500 which is in the range of the Samsung Champ Duos and Nokia C3. Well this phone clearly falls short of the standards set by them. Though it has the push mail service which hardly works there is still a lot left to be desired in this phone. It certainly does offer quite a number of features and boasts of very good speakers and a pretty long battery life considering the price tag but it’s the functionality and user experience where it clearly falls short. You would need to search for reasons to buy this!
