While Symbian might be on its way out after dominating the smartphones space for close to a decade, Nokia is still doing its bit to keep the remaining Symbian users happy. In the latest such move, the Finnish phonemaker has issued a much needed software update to a bunch of old Symbian powered handsets.
This update endows the target phones with new features and also fixes a handful of bugs. As for the handsets which are due for this update, the coveted list includes the likes of the Nokia N8, the E7, C7, C6-01, X7 and the Oro.
The version number for this update is 111.040.1511and one of the main features that finds its way in with this update is the capability of the web browser to run HTML 5 web apps. Nokia has also updated the lost of homescreen widgets that come by default. The update will also bring the recently released Microsoft Office Mobile App and the Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 in a single package.
Nokia has said that the release would be made available in phases with the unlocked, non operator specific phones getting the update first. They have also said that people may experience issues with App compatibility. Developers will need to ensure that their apps are ready for this update , Nokia added.
