Today, the Korean smartphone maker launched their next flagships, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in India at an event held in New Delhi.
Following are the official prices for both phones:

Galaxy S6 Edge 64GB | 64,900 |
Galaxy S6 Edge 128GB | 70,900 |
Both the phones have similar specifications and it’s just that the Edge has a slightly curved screen on both the sides. They sport a 5.1 inch Quad HD display (2560×1440 pixels) with a whopping 577 PPI pixel density. The devices run on an Exynos 7420, Octa Core processor and are packed with 3GB of RAM. A user can choose between the 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options, but the phones lack a card slot to expand the memory. The rear camera has a 16 Megapixel sensor and the phones are capable of 4K video recording (2160p). It supports Auto Real-time High Dynamic Range (HDR), Smart Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and IR Detect White Balance. There is a 5 Megapixel front camera on both phones. In terms of battery, they are powered by a 2550mAh unit which is also non-removable. The devices will run on Android Lollipop 5.0.2 with a toned down version of TouchWiz.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge are really important for the company as their Galaxy S5 didn’t sell as well as its predecessors and the company’s smartphone share in the market took a dip. They lost their number one rank to Xiaomi and Micromax in China and India respectively. This is mainly because it faced lot of competition from Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Lenovo, etc who offer phones with high-end specifications at nearly half the price. The other reason is that its old time nemesis, Apple, launched big screened phones which were a runaway success in Asian countries. Now it remains to be seen if Samsung can repeat the success of the Galaxy S3/S4 with these two new models.
