Samsung Sold 9.3 Million Galaxy S In 2010

When Samsung launched the Galaxy S, we knew it was a remarkable phone. Apple fanboys did call the device a “poor lookalike” and that it might never be able to match the dynamics or the awesomeness of the retina display on the iPhone 4. That, however, doesn’t seem to have stopped people from flocking over at Samsung stores to buy the phone. While it has still some way to go before it can match the number of iPhone 4?s sold in the first quarter of 2010 (14 million), 9.3 million devices in about six months is by no means an easy feat to achieve. When Samsung set itself a target of selling 10 million Galaxy S phones, the notion was mostly scoffed by analysts and enthusiasts. With still a week left for the year to end and the festive season underway, there is still some chance that the 10 million target could be met.

Note that we are talking about the various Nexus S handsets that are currently on sale. The North American versions of the phone are visually different from their Asian counterparts – albeit with almost similar features. Features common to all the versions include the gorgeous, retina display rivaling 4-inch super AMOLED display, HD Video recording, 5 megapixel camera (sadly, minus flash). The phone just received an update to Android 2.2 and had originally shipped with Android 2.1.

In its home country Korea, the Galaxy S easily outsold the iPhone 4 with over 2 million units sold in that country.
