Just a few days back we had heard that Qualcomm will be bringing out ARM processors which will be compatible with Windows 8 and now its Texas Instrument’s turn to announce the same. TI has announced that it will be coming out with a 1.8 GHz OMAP 4470 multi-core ARM processor.
Ever since Microsoft made the grand announcement of supporting both ARM and X86 with its next release of Windows, the CPU race has intensified. Intel has announced its Trigate 3D plans and analysts are busy speculating the industry future.
The new chip will consist a pair of 1 GHz ARM Cortex A9 MPCore engines and two 266 MHz ARM Cortex- M3 cores, which will be utilized for multimedia. This new processor can be compared to the recently demoed Kal-El quadcore processor from Nvidia (NVIDIA also has its project Denver which they claim can support servers as well).
This new processor from TI is said to support all android devices, all tablets, Linux and also Windows 8. This chip can support a maximum of QXGA redolution of 2048 x 1536 up to three HD displays. TI did not announce when this chip will be seen in the market or in devices but it is expected to arrive in the Q1 of 2012
