It seems that Verizon customers using the Motorola Droid X are seeing an OTA update to Gingerbread! Currently running (at least officially) Android Froyo, Gingerbread (2.3) is the most sought after hack. A Gingerbread build for DroidX had leaked sometime back, but this particular update, versioned 4.5.588 is said to be different and further updated. Another bit about this update is the fact that only users with the latest build of Froyo i.e. 2.3.340, are seeing this update as of now.
The downside, well if you have already rooted your Droid X, you will have to wait for a new hack to root it again (the Verizon updates comes with a new bootloader). The update downloads in the background and prompts you to restart and install it (a concern for rooters).
