Yes we are the same people who go out and compare every new smart phone out there with the Androids and iPhones and make no exceptions in the cut throat competition that exists in the smart phone space. However, it pains to see someone claiming ‘Palm Pre 2 Doomed to Fail‘ without putting up any case against it or demonstrate even 1% knowledge of the smartphones market. Looking at the Palm Pre 2 and judging HP-Palm is like seeing the G1 and yawning at Android. By all means this release is just to demonstrate the webOS 2.0 platform and serve as an efficient developer phone.
Yes the webOS market share is nothing to look at and Palm sold for just $1.2bln compared to cash reserves of $51b with Apple. But this is the time when smart phones are evolving, Windows Phone 7 is just coming out of the shell and Android is not yet ready for tablets. iOS lead the pack pretty much alone, and competition is heating up. You never know when the market dynamics change. No I am not claiming that webOS will come out and blow us away, but you got to consider that the failure/success of Palm Pre 2 isnβt based on its consumer sales, but the developer traction it gets!
I refrained from writing about the Palm Pre 2 and decided to wait till CES to see what actually HP Palm has to offer. I refuse to believe that HP-Palm can cook up something truly out of the world in less than 6 moths of partnership. Palm Pre 2 introduces the webOS 2.0 and only time will tell as to what undoubtedly is coming out on the hardware side to fight the real competition.
well..Annkur…dont know why but i can sense a bit of soft-corner in your heart for Palm π
let it be…by the way i agree with u & i agree becoz i hate stagnation…i loathe monopoly…i adore diversity…i love innovation…and more importantly as Darwin had postulated “Struggle-For-Existence” & “Survival -Of -the-Fittest”….hope u got my point…:-)
ah thanks. Not that I have a soft corner or something, I have admitted it publicly before that I dumped the Pre for an iPhone 3GS (even though I am a old Palm fan) http://onlygizmos.com/palm-hp-etc/2010/08/ – but here after avoiding writing about Palm Pre 2 just because people know me as a Palm Fan didn’t seem right. I had to set the record straight with the pre 2, may be you can still smell the love in my heart, but its not exclusive for Palm π
Thanks again, I loved seeing Motorola bounce back, time for several others. Ultimate beneficiary is us, the consumers π
