Microsoft has officially launched its next generation smart phone operating system, Windows Phone 7. As many as 10 new handsets made by a horde of manufacturers are in the fray vying your attention. The new handsets include ones from Samsung, Dell, HTC and LG.
Let us take a closer look at all these handsets. Right here, right now! Out of the ten handsets announced, only 7 were showcased at the launch. Anyway here we go!
Dell Venue Pro
The Dell Venue PRO was a surprise entry to the Windows Phone 7 field. While we knew that Dell was in the list of companies on board the Windows Phone 7 bandwagon we never expected them to launch a handset right on the day of the launch, Anyway, let’s see what the Dell Venue has in store for you. The Venue has an unusual design . While most phones it size have slide out keyboards that slide out towards the sides, this one has a vertical slide out keyboard that makes the already long phone quite long! It has an enormous 4.1 inch display capable of WVGA resolution. It is AMOLED in nature and boasts of a Gorilla glass covering – which is becoming quite common on high end smart phones of today. The number crunching is managed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor running at 1 GHz. There is a 5 mega-pixel camera at the rear. The pricing of the Venue Pro is yet to be revealed.
HTC 7 Mozart
Next in line is the HTC Mozart. Like other current Windows Phone 7 devices, this one too has a 1Ghz processor along with 8GB of internal storage and 512MB of ROM and 512MB of RAM. The Mozart comes with a 3.7-inch touchscreen display with an 800 x 480 pixel resolution. It supports 900MHz/2100MHz WCDMA/HSPA networks as well as quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks. Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi are also included. The highlight of the phone is its 8 mega pixel camera – which is the highest mega pixel count on a Windows Phone 7 handset. The phone can also capture videos in HD.
HTC 7 Trophy
The HTC 7 Trophy is another handset from the Taiwanese company. It has a slightly larger screen than the Mozart with a 3.8 inch WVGA display. It supports HSDPA, Wi-Fi, SRS WOW HD audio technology. The camera is a 5MP autofocus one which supports HD video recording. The phone comes with 576MB RAM! and has 512MB ROM. As usual, a snapdragon does the number crunching bit here too.
HTC HD7
We have been hearing about the HD7 for quite some time now. It had appeared in leaked images quite a few months ago. It was also rumored to be the HD3. The HD7 is similar to the old Windows Mobile 6.5 laden HTC HD2. The HD7 boasts of an entirely monstrous 4.3 inch display. Five megapixel shooters seem to be quite common all these Windows Phone 7 handsets- and the HD7 too boasts of one. It also supports HD video recording. The HD7 also gets 16 GB of memory and as usual, the 1GHz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor dwells inside this one too.
HTC Surround
Continuing with the HTC lineup, we have one more attractive handset, the Surround. This phone happens to be music-centric device with support for Dolby Mobile and SRS surround sound. It also has integrated stereo speakers. The screen is a 3.8″ affair with support for displaying stuff at a resolution of 480×800 pixels. We are not telling you the processor and the camera details because you already know what it is!
LG Quantum
We now take a look at the LG Quantum which is the first handset to be officially released by LG on the Windows Phone 7 platform. The 3.5 inch display on the Quantum is one of the smallest around on the Windows Phone 7 platform. It has a slide-out QWERTY thumb board. Apart from this, it has a 16GB NAND Flash for storage of applications and more. It also gets 256MB RAM and supports Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and a 5-mega pixel camera with LED flash. The Quantum’s bundled 1500 mAh battery promises up to 6 hours of talk time. It also gets DLNA technology. It has been priced at USD 199 for a two year contract on AT&T.
Samsung Focus
Samsung has quite a few Windows Phone 7 handsets in its arsenal – but at the time of launch it has revealed its Focus (the Cetus). The Focus gets a 4 inch display and is quite light weight at just 110 grams.Other specifications common to Windows Phone 7 are also seen on the Focus. It has a 1 GHz processor with 8 GB of internal memory which can be expanded by using a 32 GB microSD card. It also has a five megapixel camera with a flash, capable of taking high-resolution video and still pictures.
