The highly anticipated Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones have been officially unveiled in Beijing, China. These smartphones are packed with a full screen design, impressive specifications and an irresistible pricing.
Design and Display
The front side of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are mostly occupied by the 18:9 aspect ratio display. Both the phones have metal unibody design that features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The dimensions of the Redmi 5 are 151.8 x 72.8 x 7.7 and it has a weight of 157 grams whereas the Redmi 5 Plus measures 158.8 x 75.45 x 8.05mm and weighs 179.5 grams. Both the phones will be available in colors like Black, Blue, Gold and Rose Gold.
The Redmi 5’s 5.7-inch IPS LCD display supports HD+ resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The 5.99-inch IPS LCD display on the Redmi 5 Plus produces FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. Both the displays support maximum brightness of 450nits.
Performance and Variants
The Snapdragon 450 chipset powers the Redmi 5 phone. It includes a 3,300mAh battery that supports 5V/2A charging. The 2 GB and 3 GB RAM variants of the phone respectively feature 16 GB and 32 GB storage.
The Redmi 5 Plus is fueled by Snapdragon 625 chipset and 4,000mAh battery that supports 5V/2A charging. Its 3 GB RAM variant has 32 GB of storage and its 4 GB RAM model has 64 GB of storage.
Both the phones are pre-loaded with Android Nougat OS that is overlaid with the latest MIUI 9 UI. The hybrid dual SIM slot on the Redmi 5 duo carries support for microSD card.
Camera and Connectivity
A 12-megapixel lens with a pixel size of 1.25 µm is present on the backside of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. It is equipped with features like soft-LED flash, PDAF, enhanced dim light photography, HDR, Panorama and face recognition. The frontside of the Redmi 5 is enabled with 5-megapixel selfie snapper. It comes with features like Smart Beauty 3.0 for snapped enriched selfies, face recognition and full HD video shooting.
For connectivity, the Redmi 5 duo are enabled with features like 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, microUSB, v4.2 Bluetooth and GPS.
Pricing and Availability
The base model of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are respectively priced at 799 Yuan (~Rs. 7,800) and 999 Yuan (~Rs. 9,750). Their higher variants respectively cost 899 Yuan (~Rs. 8,770) and 1,299 Yuan (~Rs. 12,770).
The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will be available for buying from 12th December at 10 AM in China through Xiaomi’s online store and other retailing partners. The Redmi 5 duo phones are expected to arrive in India in the first quarter of 2018.
