Apple has updated its iMacs lineup with the all new Thunderbolt I/O and Intel’s Core Processors (2nd generation / Sandy Bridge). The upgrade was rumored ever since the MacBook Pro’s got refreshed back in March. Just as the MacBook Pros, the iMacs get the i5 and i7 processors, but no i3 version.
The graphics front packs in AMD 6750M (ATI), 6770M and 6970M and the pricing in US remains in the same zone, starting with $1199 for the 21.5″ iMac and going up to $1999 for the 27″ version. The upgrades are very much predictable (and why not) with FaceTime HD coming in all models and 3x performance boost in graphics with the new ATI chips (up to 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 video memory).
Each 21.5″ and 27″ have two variants. The 27″ version packs in 2 thunderbolt ports while the 21.5″ retains a single. Here is the pricing in USD and INR (India availability in 2 weeks).
21.5? 2.5GHz Quad Core i5, AMD 6750M, 500GB – $1199 / Rs 64,900
21.5? 2.7GHz Quad Core i5, AMD 6770M, 1TB – $1499 / Rs 79,900
27? 2.7GHz Quad Core i5, AMD 6770M, 1TB, – $1699 / Rs 91,900
27? 3.1GHz Quad Core i5, AMD 6970M, 1TB, – $1999 / Rs 107,900
You can optionally order a Core i7 processor upgrade at a cost of $200 (for specific models only). Apple also allos a 256GB SSD on the 21.5″ iMac at $500 extra (expensive!).
