Nokia C series has finally gone official with Nokia showing the C5 officially. Leaked earlier, we already had a fair idea of what the C5 can offer and here is what Nokia says: We are introducing the new Nokia C5, an affordable smartphone optimized for social networking and sharing.

The image gives out the obvious details in the form of compact design, large comfortable keypad and the UI that flaunts favorite contacts, email and app shortcuts on homescreen. The features as we hear are the same as rumored before with Symbian S60v3, 3.2MP camera, AGPS, 2.2″ screen, etc. The price is rumored to be sub $200. More as it comes…

Nokia did disappoint a lot of techies by not releasing any new handset during the MWC 2010. Nokia did announce the new OS, dubbed MeeGo but that wasn’t enough. Was it? Well, for all those who are keen to see some new handsets from Nokia here is the leaked Nokia X10.
We did hear some news about the new naming scheme from Nokia which mentioned the X series that focuses on entertainment and music for young audience. The leaked X10 belongs to the same X series. The handset has been released by a video on YouTube that shows a few documentation of the Symbian^3 powered Nokia X10.
The specifications of the device mentioned in the video includes a (more…)

The latest rumors in the technology world suggest a 12MP camera phone from Nokia. Rumor also has it that Nokia would be announcing this phone during the MWC 2010 at Barcelona. There are a few speculations about a new naming scheme too, with the introduction of new C, X and S series along with the existing N and E series.

If the ‘internal’ sources of BeGeek are to be believed, the phone in the picture above is Nokia’s N98. The rumored specifications include a 4″ touchscreen, 32GB of internal storage and a slide-out QWERTY. The picture also suggests an OS looking similar to Symbian S60. As the design and model number would suggest to you, this is a N97 successor and we just hope that Nokia has had its learning’s from the N97. The phone also has a leaked price tag – €450 ($619). The phone is expected to be released during the holiday season of 2010 and rumored to be announced during the Mobile World Congress. But seeing Nokia’s low interest in the MWC 2010, we hardly see this happening.

A close look at the Nokia’s product lineup would surely suggest a broken link between the low-end phones and the high-end N-series/E-series. If the speculations of a handset called C5 are to be true, then Nokia might just be filling this broken link with a new C-series. C5 is the first leaked handset of the new rumored C-series. C5 would be a mid-range Nokia smartphone which should fit perfect into the price sensitive pockets. The phone seems to be running Symbian S60 v3 & the shortcuts / widgets on the homescreen reminds us of the 5233 UI we saw earlier this week.
The rumored specs are -
- Symbian S60v3 OS
- 3.2MP camera
- HSDPA / HSUPA
- 2.2? QVGA screen
- 50MB internal memory
- MicroSD Slot
- GPS / A-GPS
- 3.5MM audio jack
- FM Radio
The C5 is expected to be announced later this month @ MWC 2010 at Barcelona. The pricing of the device is unknown.

Nokia has said RIP to Gage for sure, but you never know whats really cooking in Finland. Nokia might well be planning some cool gaming phones that could match up with the challenge thrown by the iPhone / Android and lately Palm. What we have here is the Ovi Orion concept that is a gaming touchscreen and by the looks of it, it sure is sporty! Recombu Orion concept is loaded with a ‘killer’ CPU/GPU, 4.3″ touchscreen, a QWERTY with additional one line display on the back and gaming controls (along with the usual suspects like the WiFi, Sensors etc).

For a long time the Samsung Corby / Star series went without any competition, however Nokia has finally got cheaper versions of the 5800 out in the market to compete in the low-cost touchscreen segment. The Nokia 5230 costs Rs 8000 approx and the 5530 goes for Rs 11750. But does this come on time to take on the Corby Pro and Corby S3653, or even the LG Cookie?? IMO the usability and use of internet on the Nokia Symbian platform is much better than what Corby offers and serious users would go for the 5230 / 5530 (though both of them lack a capacitive touchscreen). However in this segment of the market looks sell and that’s what Samsung has on its side! Anyways here are your options with Nokia… (more…)

The 2010 Nokia UI that we saw earlier is the S^4 UI Concept Proposal submitted by Nokia. Symbian OS 4 is expected to be launched by NOKIA along with some sleeky models most probably sometime in 2010 itself. The inspiration of this OS is taken from Android but we know where the actual push comes from, its the “iPhone”. Latest version of Symbian OSes are built and tested out on QT which have the capability to support hybrid, touch screen and other model phones.
Nokia is working on building clean and interactive (more…)

Nokia has clubbed its Ovi Maps application with a racing game to be released in 2010. The Ovi Maps Racing is a combination of Ovi Maps and racing, allowing its user to race through the tracks on the Ovi Map.
The application detects the users location through GPS and then allows the user to race in the neighbourhood tracks using the racing game application. The user can also customise the tracks to race along the famous roads of major cities. The user can customise the tracks of his current location or can choose any location around the world for racing.
The game would soon be available on the Ovi Store. Nokia did not declare if the game would be a free or paid application. Do check the demo video to see how it works.

After being knocked off from the no. 1 position by Samsung in the UK market, Nokia now seems to be realizing that competition has heated up. Rumors are now rife that Nokia may soon be coming out with dual-SIM cell phones, as early as second quarter of 2010. After Samsung, LG and Motorola made similar moves, Nokia, too, seems to be following the same lines.
Nokia is expected to target emerging markets, having lost some of its market share there. One point that must be noted here is that many carriers do not prefer such cell phones, for obvious competitive reasons. So, it’s highly likely that such phones will come out as individual manufactured units and not paired with services (more…)

We got our mitts on the latest addition to Nokia’s enterprise-oriented E series. And what we saw convinced us that for the first time in years, Nokia might – might, mind you – finally have got the key to unlocking BlackBerry’s dominance of the enterprise phone segment. We can hear the cynics’ eyebrows rise up (yes, they go THAT high) at this claim. After all, the E series has had its share of winners – most notably the Communicator and last year’s E71 – and neither really dented the RIM stronghold. Why should the E72 be any different? Ah, read on: (more…)

Over the years Nokia has had some real classics in the 6000 series. Starting from the Nokia 6600 (that sold like hot cakes) to the 6610, 6233 and 6300. The 6700 Classic is an ideal upgrade from the 6233 or the 6300, both of which were pretty popular devices in the mid-range segment. We saw a few more devices like the 6208 and the 6303 classic, but the 6700 appeared to be the best bet, which is why we picked the 6700 to review. (more…)

Sometimes, a good shock is just what you need to get yourself going. And Nokia has been having a fair share of experiences in the shocks department of late. The N97 got hammered, the 5800 Xpress Music sold a few million but was not really the iPhone killer it was touted to be and its recent E series and N series phones have not exactly set the market on fire. The pundits have been muttering that the Espoo company is making the same mistake that IBM made in the eighties in the PC business, letting an almost monopolistic command of the market slip away by attempting to be high-tech and neglecting the grass root segment, which actually provides the volumes.
While there is some justice in that argument (when was last time you saw Nokia come out with a powerful phone that was intended for the masses rather than the classes?), there is also evidence that Nokia is shaking off (more…)

Nokia and Verizon Wireless have launched a brand new flip phone with a sleek and stylish body. Dubbed the Nokia 2705 Shade, the phone is the smallest available through Verizon and still has a sizable display.
The Nokia 2705 will be available with a 1.3 megapixel camera. The phone will also come embedded with the VZ NavigatorSM. This software will allow its users to access more than 15 million points of interest. Other connectivity options included are Bluetooth and MicroUSB 2.0. The phone has an internal memory of 62MB, but without any room for expandable memory.
The specifications of the phone makes it a considerably low-end phone made by Nokia in recent times, but it also has (more…)

Nokia has added a gem under its corporate social responsibility umbrella with the introduction of the Nokia Braille Reader. This prototype application has been developed by the Nokia Beta Labs, and is designed to allow users who either partially-sighted or completely blind to use the SMS functionality on their cellphones. The Braille Reader has been developed by Nokia in collaboration with Tampere University and the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired.
The Braille Reader will use the vibration of the cellphone to communicate each character of the SMS one at a time, thereby converting the SMS into the Braille form. After repeated usage, the visually-challenged user should be able to recognise these characters easily.
The Braille Reader is designed to only read (more…)

Nokia is pushing its messaging service really hard via offline channels in India. Nokia’s email service is compatible with most N series and E series handsets, however users need to download the app from email.nokia.com to get started with this. While making a mobile purchase along with a friend at a local store in Mumbai, I noticed the Nokia sales staff pushing the service really hard and volunteering to install+configure it for users. On probing a little further with my sources it turns out so that Nokia is offering superb bonuses to its sales staff for installing the application on Nokia phones.
The bonus can be as much as double the monthly salary for a sales executive. For example a sales executive with a salary of Rs 8000 can earn Rs 15k by just meeting a monthly target to activate email service for users. If not there is good enough amount paid per activation aswell. Nokia sure realizes that smartphones are all about smart apps and they seem to be pushing it hard!

The world’s largest mobile manufacturer is diversifying into telecom solution providers. With the turbulent market conditions and immense increase in competition, Nokia is shifting some gears to reposition itself and pace up its profits by additional sources.
“Services is next big thing…we see people living their life 24×7 through applications on their mobile phones. Whether it is Twitter or Facebook, people live their life online,” Nokia India Managing director, D Shivakumar said on company’s future plans.
Nokia has already signed a deal with Social Networking website Facebook. Under this deal, the Nokia users can directly update their Facebook status using a Nokia Ovi account. Apart from this, Nokia is also looking forward to providing solutions like online music downloads, weather updates to farmers, online games and financial services to name a few. Also, Nokia would be entering the financial services model with the Nokia Money Services, to debute next year. The service would provide the basic financial services via Nokia mobiles.
“The service would enable consumers to send money, pay for goods, services and bills, and recharge their prepaid SIM cards using their mobile phone,” Shivakumar said about Nokia Money Services.
