Earlier this month at the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung took the wraps off of its third-generation Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip smartphones. The latest offerings debut as the successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The foldable smartphones also arrive with significant upgrades. Notably, the South Korean brand skipped the tradition of launching its marque Galaxy Note series this year due to the shortage of chipsets.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 vs Z Flip 3: display and design
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a horizontal folding phone while the Z Flip 3 is a vertical foldable offering. Beginning with the former, the device offers a 6.3-inch outer and a 7.6-inch interior screen. Both feature an AMOLED panel bearing HD+ and a QXGA+ resolution respectively.
As for the Galaxy Z Flip 3, it offers a 6.7-inch internal FHD+ display and a dual-tone back panel housing a 1.9-inch sAMOLED screen. Both the foldable offerings feature a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. They are also the industry-first smartphones with IP68 certified bodies. The devices come with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 also supports S-Pen.

In the photography department, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 sports a vertically stacked triple rear camera setup comprising of a 12MP wide-angle sensor with OIS, 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 12MP zoom unit. There is a 10MP punch-hole camera cutout on the outer display. The smartphone is also the first to come with a 4MP under-display camera sensor.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 also has vertically-aligned dual rear cameras of 12MP wide-angle and 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens while the punch-hole cutout on the front accommodates a 10MP selfie shooter.

Under the hood, the Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are equipped with a Snapdragon 888 processor coupled with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. The former draws its power from a 4,400mAh battery unit while the latter is backed by a 3,300mAh cell with support for 25W fast and 15W fast charging respectively. Both smartphones also support 10W wireless charging.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 run on OneUI 3.1 based on the latest Android 11 out of the box. Connectivity options on both smartphones include nano-SIM, eSIM USB-C port, 5G, 4G, WiFi-6, Bluetooth, and GPS.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are offered in two RAM and storage configurations. The former is available in Phantom Black and Phantom Green colours while the latter comes in Phantom Black and Cream options.
