Acer has officially announced the launch of its entry level Android based handset – the beTouch E140 in the UK. Earlier launched in Italy, the phone runs Android Froyo and is expected to make its landing in India as well in the near future. Since the phone runs Froyo, it is likely that we might also see a Gingerbread update for this one since the “system requirements” for both are virtually similar.
The beTouch E140 gets a 2.8 QVGA display and is one of the smallest Android handset you would be able to buy. It is powered by a 600 Mhz processor and gets support for HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and stereo radio FM. There is a 3.2MP camera at the back that takes care of the imaging bit. The phone also gets support for expandable memory up to 32GB using microSD cards. The device is also social networking ready with native widgets for Facebook and Twitter built in.
The phone is likely to be priced at around the €200 mark in Europe. In India, we can expect this one to go for around 13 k – which would pit it directly against the likes of the Xperia X8 and a host of other entry level Android handsets.
