As Christmas draws near, game and app developers seem to have gone into Santa mode, reducing prices and even throwing in free games and add-ons. Just when we had managed to get a grip on Angry Birds: Seasons (the game that was a free download for existing Angry Birds users) on our iPhones, we now have confirmation that the game’s biggest rival in the casual gaming market, Cut the Rope, is going to have a free edition as well. And this one is free to ALL players, not just existing Rope Cutters on the iPhone and iPod touch.
The game, which essentially involves cutting ropes (surprise, surprise) to feed sweets to an adorable monster called Om Nom, had created a major stir when it had surged past Angry Birds to become the most downloaded game on the App Store a few months ago. Well, it now stands a very good chance of going right back to the top of the charts with a new stand-alone version called, rather appropriately,Cut The Rope: Holiday Gift, which is now available for free – yes, you read that right, FREE – download. And it is no small affair either – the game comes packed with 25 levels of hacking and slashing…well, ropes. Expectedly, it has a major holiday season element to it, with Christmas-theme levels, music and even costumes. We do not know about you, but we are downloading and playing it just in the hope of seeing Om Nom in a Santa cap.
