Speculations were rife about the launching date, after Aircel and Airtel confirmed the launch of iPhone4 in India. But as it turns out our prediction about the launch date being 27th May has come true though the prices are not low to blow us away (but it’s just as we had rumored).
Aircel today announced that they would be officially selling the iPhone 4 in India with a new pricing model, wherein the customers will be able to recover their upfront costs on select plans. Customers will have to pay an upfront amount of Rs. 34,500 for 16GB and Rs. 40,900 for 32GB models which they can recover over a period of 24 months on select service plans from Aircel. The iPhone 4 would go head-on-head with Samsungs Galaxy SII, which incidentally was announced just today. However the iPhone 4 would go on sale before the SGS2.
Aircel would make these available via Aircel retail stores in India from 27th may. You can visit Aircel for pricing and availability of iPhone 4. We are yet to hear from Airtel, but these devices would be factory unlocked in India, so if you aren’t in for the subsidy offered, an Aircel unit is as good as Airtel.
