The iPhone 4S hype has reached its peak and given the enthusiastic promotions by Airtel and Aircel, we know that Apple is rolling out the 5th generation iPhone in India and in all probability several more countries on 25th November. The pricing of the iPhone 4S is speculated at above Rs 44,000, however a lot of us are concerned if it would support Indian accent for its most distinctive feature i.e. Siri. We have had our few minutes with a UK version of iPhone 4S and Siri failed to recognize our accent. With little hopes of having an Indian accent support for Siri we were surprised to see that with iOS 5.0.1 Apple had given a Siri update for Australian users and Airtel’s iPhone helpline confirmed that the 4S would launch with Indian accent support on 25th November.
We have verified the claim by calling the Airtel helpline for the iPhone (1800-200-1342) and they claimed that our poor experience with Siri on an US/UK version won’t repeat with the Indian version sold by them. Given that Apple is said to be cooking iOS 5.0.2 to deal with the battery drain issue, it might well carry the accent fix for Siri. Also rumored is some additional Siri commands, but we can be fairly sure if iOS 5.0.2 is carrying Siri updates, it ought to be released by 25th November i.e. the launch date for iPhone 4S in India.
