It is widely believed that Google’s latest Nexus branded tablet from Asus, the Nexus 7 which is being sold at $199 and is directly aimed at Amazon’s Kindle Fire which retails at the same price. So it becomes imperative for Amazon to strike back with an apt response.
Rumors has it that Amazon is already prepping up to launch an incremental version of the highly successful Android tablet currently being called the Kindle Fire 2 by the end of July or the start of August. The Fire runs on a highly customized version of Google’s Android operating system.
Amazon is said to have called Quanta, placing an order for manufacturing upto 2 million Kindle Fire 2’s. We have also earlier reported of Amazon getting ready to launch two tablets one being the 7 inch and the other one a 10 incher.
The new tablets are said to come in a better build quality consisting of a metal casing and a much improved design. The tabs would still be slimmer than the new iPad and would not feature any buttons on them just like the older version.
The new 7 inch Kindle Fire 2 is supposed to be priced at $199 with the earlier version being discounted to $150. Though it remains to be seen what other innovative feature Amazon can bring to the table besides the redesigned metal casing and the Prime offering at $80 which allows the Kindle Fire users access to a huge collection of free videos and e-books. It also offers a free two day shipping if you buy anything from Amazon’s online store.
Though, it remains to be seen whether the above stated features would prove to be sufficient; to compete against the much hyped and appreciated, Google Nexus 7 tablet with Jelly Bean. But at the same time the 7 inch tablet market is set to get crowded as Apple the clear dominating leader in the tablet industry by far, is getting ready to launch a 7 inch version of the iPad. That would surely be a huge move by the Cupertino based tech giant which could sweep out the other tablet OEM’s entirely out of business in the tablet segment.
