We have been hearing about this January 19 Apple events for quite some time now. Earlier, it was thought that the iPad 3 could be unveiled at this event thanks to sources from the Far East. But those claims have been since then dismissed by most analysts.
Earlier last week, invites for this “education event” scheduled to be held at New York were sent out by Apple to leading publications and journalists. While there, was still no clarity on the exact nature of this event and as to what Apple would be unveiling there, recent reports point towards the possibility of it being about the launch of a new platform for digital textbooks.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has been working with McGraw-Hill and Cengage Learning to launch this new platform. They will also release new tools that will help users create Digital textbooks using the platform. Called Garageband for eBooks, it is projected to simplify the process of making e-books. The aim seems to be making the process of digital publishing a much simpler process than it is now and to open up the digital publishing space for new users and independent publishers.
Anyway, we might as wait till January 19 to figure out what exactly Apple is up to this time.
