Months ago, New York Times reported that Facebook application for iPad would arrive in weeks. Later on, folks at TechCrunch told us about a hack on how to install the fully functional application on iPad. However, the method was soon blocked after sometime. Now, the team leader at Facebook who was responsible for developing an iPad version has quit for Google. He shared his remarkable experience on his blog and told us some insightful story behind the delay.
As per Jeff Verkoeyen, the application has been fully developed since May. But Facebook had been constantly denying his request to land the application in the App Store. We have personally tested the application and are curious to know the actual reason for its delay. The app works well without any sign of crashes. When asked, Facebook said that they are delaying the application for various reasons. Undoubtedly, those reasons could be the upcoming Timeline feature and open Graphics which were demonstrated at F8 conference, few days ago.
Facebook has been prompt in releasing an app for the Playbook and rumors have suggested that Facebook is delaying the iPad app to negotiate terms with Apple. Or it is just that Facebook has the Timeline and music services going live in the near future and the Facebook iPad app would be delayed further to integrate them. Either ways, for now 3rd party app makers are making hay while the sun shines. We hope Facebook is able to roll out an official app soon.
