As the time nears for Apple’s eagerly anticipated press conference (to select media) about the iPhone 4, speculation is rife about what exactly will be said and done. Well, we do not have our crystal ball handy to tell you what exactly will transpire, but based on past events and what we have heard (and overheard) in recent times, we are betting that the following four things will surely happen
- iPhone sales records: Rare is the Apple event that has kicked off without some talk at least of how well the company’s latest products are doing in the market. We reckon Uncle Steve is going to spend some time telling us about the hundreds of thousands of iPhones that are being sold around the world, with a odd jibe at the fact that this is happening notwithstanding the rumoured signal strength problem.
- No recall: We are sorry to disappoint the Doomsday pundits, but we really do not see an iPhone 4 recall taking place. It would hammer the company’s stock and would simply be way too expensive. There might be some solution for owners “experiencing signal strength problems,” (maybe some sort of coating over the metal band) but nothing beyond that, mark our words.
- No bumper cases: There is a school of tech thought that feels that Apple is likely to offer free bumper cases to alleviate the signal problem. Well, we do not really think so because that would mess up every dock accessory the iPhone uses and also make the device too bulky for a number of cases. Most importantly, it is just too clumsy a solution and would affect the appearance of the device.
- iOS 4 update: An updated version of iOS with software to sort out the “signal” problem is something that everyone is predicting and we must humbly agree that of all things to happen tonight, this one is by far the most likely. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that the update will come up with something more than just a fix, and will throw in some new features too.
So, that is our fearless take on what will transpire in Cupertino some hours from now. Yes, feel free to paste us to kingdom come if none of this comes out right, but heck, at least we tried!
