While we all await Facebook to release an official app for Apple iPad, we have to rely on 3rd party developers doing some work on this front. One of the top apps (1st when we checked) on the App Store is Friendly for Facebook and its just a browser frame loading the mobile version of FB for you. Even the iPhone version of the FB app works better with a 2x magnification on the iPad. There sure needs to be a better solution.
A little research and we landed with FriendCaster. This is a free app and has amazing UI. Not that we have tested a dozen apps, but this feels like one of the best apps we have used in a long time. So looking for a good FB app on the iPad? You might well like to give Friend Caster a shot! Here, are some screenshots and a video review while we tested this app on an iPad 2.
You can stream the status updates from your neighborhood in a beautiful animated interface. The background can be changed.
The status update box opens up over the App UI. This is much like the official twitter app.
The app opens up with a timeline view, and, on the left panel you have all the images you were tagged in.
Now why ask Apple to have this feature or look for 3rd party options, when FriendCaster already has a inbuilt PassLock feature. You can also signin multiple FB profiles on this. Works on Facebook connect.
Tap on a thumbnail and a popup opens to give you bio, tagged photos that you can swipe through and even Wall / Albums access. Neat!
The app misses some crucial features like notifications, view profile etc, but the things that it shows is visually soothing and optimized for a tablet inteface. That sure counts a lot! While our search for a better FaceBook app continues, do check this out and leave your opinion in the comments box below.
friended for ipad is also a good alternative! try that too 🙂
