As we reported earlier about an Official Facebook application for iPad to be released soon, we have a hack for you to try it prior to availability in the App Store. According to Techcrunch, Facebook application for iPad is hidden in the system files of recently updated Facebook For iPhone. If you want to install Facebook application for iPad on your device, all you need to do is to change some system file permissions in the application on a JailBroken iPad. Check out the tutorial below:
Warning: Follow at your own risk. We will not be responsible for any bricked devices.
1) Download official Facebook application for iPhone from here.
2) Once the application is downloaded, install it on your iPad.
3) Now, you will need an iFile application from Cydia. Navigate to var/mobile/applications and search for Facebook.app in many /DXXXXX-XXXX-XXX folders.
5) Once you have located Facebook.app folder, search for info.plist and open it in ‘Property List Viewer’.
6) Tapping on it will open up a ticket counter with default no. set as ‘1’. Here, you need to change it to ‘2’.
7) Reboot your iPad.
8) Boom! Once the device is rebooted, you would be able to launch Official Facebook application for iPad.
9) Enjoy 🙂
Let’s know if you experience any issues in the comment section. We have not tried the method ourselves, but it seems to work for many people out there. You may need to upgrade to either iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 4.3.4 if you face crashing problems. We will upload the images soon.
Stay tuned!
Update: We have at least one confirmation that this hack doesn’t let one log-in to FB with an error message (thanks @praval). The error was spotted with an iPad running iOS 4.3.3. (Jailbroken of course). We are testing this hack and meantime if you have any more inputs, send it our way.
Update 2: Well, we have tried the hack on a JailBroken first generation iPad. At the first attempt to login, it gave us ‘try again later’ error. But after some time, we managed to log in into the application and until now, it appears to be working perfectly acceptable without any crashes or bugs. Anyways, we tested it on iOS 4.2.1 which could differ from iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 4.3.4. Here, are some of the screenshots:
Update 3: After hours of leak, Facebook has finally closed the backdoor of manipulating system file permission and logging into Official Facebook application for iPad. If you earlier managed to get into the application, you won’t be forced to log out until you do yourself. Once logged out, you will not be able to log in again into the application. Believe it or not, you could be one of the luckiest people out here to experience the unreleased version;)
Update 4: FaceForward tweak in Cydia allows you to re-enable the hack. Read here
