HTC Sensation Does An iPhone: Has the Death Grip Issue?

Now, this is really interesting. HTC’s recently launched flagship handset the Sensation seems to be facing an issue that is similar to what the iPhone 4 faced last year just after it was launched. When you hold the Sensation in a certain way, covering the area which houses the antennae, the phone suddenly loses signal. If you happen to be in a bad signal area at that point of time, you could end up dropping your call.

The interesting thing about this issue is that this also affects your other wireless connections including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi – and is not just limited to GSM networks.

Now, before you start blaming HTC and go behind them for a refund, do note that this is just a report based on initial speculations. The news of this possible flaw has been reported by a Swedish website Nordic Hardware. It is unclear if ALL HTC sensation handsets face this issue or whether it is a problem exclusive to the handset these folks now have in for review.

Anyway, if you happen to be a lucky HTC Sensation user already, you might just want to do some tests and check whether this issue actually exists.

According to Nordic Hardware, it is the Unibody architecture of the phone that is causing the issue. According to them, the entire back case of the phone acts a s battery cover and there are patches of plastic inside the phone that acts as the antenna. They add that the problem occurs when you inadvertently cover one of these antennas causing the phone to experience a loss in signal.

Unfortunately, unlike on the iPhone,, where the problem could be solved by using a case that won’t allow people to cover the gap where the antenna is, using a case on the Sensation would be of no help as it would only make it harder for the signals to penetrate.

Have an HTC Sensation lying around? What are you waiting for?  Go ahead, do some tests and let us know!

  • It is just a rumor and very few websites are showing it. if it was for real there would have been an outbreak and official word from htc. All these are just rumors i guess even in the forums no one has issues with the sensation
