The iPad 2 was launched just last week, and immediately after the prices of the iPad first generation were slashed from $499 to $399 in US and other major markets. India got the iPad first generation only in late January this year at a starting price of Rs 27,990 for 16GB WiFi version going up to Rs 44,990 for the 64GB WiFi plus 3G version. Since the launch the iPad has been selling very well in the Indian metropolitan cities. After, the global slash down in iPad prices, Apple has reduced the prices for iPad in India too.
Now, instead of Rs 27,900 for base model, you will have to pay Rs 24,500 for 16GB WiFi model, Rs 29,500 for 32GB WiFi, and Rs 34,500 for 64GB WiFi model. For 3G and WiFi models the prices have gone down to Rs 31,990, for 16GB, Rs 36,990 for 32Gb and Rs 41,990 for 64GB.
We do not know as of now whether those who bought the iPad in India at the launch price will get a refund like in other countries, but what we do know is that this price cut is going to wreak havoc with other tablet manufacturers’ strategies. Will Samsung slash the price of the Galaxy Tab again? Watch this space.
