Apple has been of late under pressure from its fans, investors and industry insiders alike to bring more innovative feature additions to its iPhone. The iPhone design and features have more or less remained the same since the past few updates. There have been upgrades for sure – but most of them have been incremental and not something that could be termed revolutionary – as the usual norm is with Apple when it came to product updates. Anyway, that might change next year when Apple releases its next generation iPhone models in 2014.
According to new reports coming in, Apple is said to be already working on two models of the iPhone that would sport curved displays. These modes are set to be launched in the third quarter of 2014. The source of the news is an industry insider who confided this information to Bloomberg. Apart from the curved display, the device is also predicted to come with improved touchscreen sensors. Apple would also increase the display size of the iPhone – (a trend that would be moving away from Apple erstwhile stand about the 3.5 inch and then later 4 inch being the optimum screen size for a smartphone). The report points towards the possibility of the new iPhone models getting a 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch displays.
While this might look improbable right now, there have been reports earlier about Apple working on large screened iPhone models. There is hence no doubt about the fact that the company might consider jumping on to the phablets bandwagon especially after seeing the kind of success Samsung has seen with its large screened phones.
At this point, it is simply too early to say whether Apple would indeed go ahead with this plan of large screened iPhones. It could be that Apple is just testing out large screened devices and depending on the kind of results they get, they might chose to either opt to go large screen -or stick to making sub 5 inch iPhones in the future as well. Also to be noted is the fact that if these devices do arrive with curved displays next year, Samsung and LG would have already trumped Apple to get a device with a curved display in the consumer’s hands – thanks to the Galaxy Round and the LG Flex.
