Talk about being quick! Just a day after Apple and Intel announced the launch of the new I/O interface, the Thunderbolt, LaCie has introduced a new external SSD that would support the new standard. LaCie, which is known to be an early adopter when it comes to new and upcoming technologies, was in the forefront at the time of the USB 3.0 launch. Looks like they want to be at the forefront even with Thunderbolt. Their new Little Big Disk supports a capacity of 500 GB and actually contain two 250GB SSD’s connected in RAID 0. It weighs in at just 1.5 pounds – and as expected, is ridiculously expensive at $500 apiece. But then, so are the MacBook Pro’s that would attach to the other end of these devices to – at least for now.
All you early adopters will need to wait for the next few months for this to become available. But yeah, LaCie did win the race to ANNOUCE the first Thunderbolt ready accessory already. Here’s a graph showing how awesome the data transfer speeds on these drives would be.
Impressed? Now lets all await the launch.
