Microsoft’s Windows Phone Update ‘Mango’ is Here!

With the platform war in the smartphones market heating up the season of updates is here. Google is rumored to demo its  Android IceCream  soon and the perennial smartphone market leader Apple has already announced the demo of its iOS 5 at WWDC; Microsoft the software giant wasn’t really going be left behind and has replied the competition by demoing the Mango update for Windows phone 7.

The Mango update promises to bring an addition of upto 500 new features. As per Microsoft this update revolves around the individuals or groups that the user wants to stay connected with and not the apps that they would use. A range of updates and features have been made available to the social networking apps like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Windows Live Messenger. Microsoft has also introduced the Internet Explorer 9 browser with Mango for Windows Phones.

Microsoft will bring the update in the current crop as well as the new handsets with LG, HTC, Samsung, Acer among others. Microsoft is also said to be working to get Mango on the current overall market leader and manufacturing Finnish giant Nokia

Till date quite contrasting reports have emerged from the market in terms of smartphone OS leader. With initial reports from market research giant Gartner discounting Windows Phone 7 from the OS race, things have gradually changed and shaped in favor of WP7 in recent months. A recent report from IDC pegs Windows Phone 7 and Android ahead of iOS in the future. For now though Apple’s iOS platform evolution is a clear market leader and  is believed to be outselling Android handsets in the US market.

Now how much these updates really help Microsoft grow further and recover market share from other competitors remains to be seen.
