Nokia sneaks X5 into India – price: Rs 10,000-10,500

Nokia seems to be in launch overdrive these days. Only, without making any official announcements. Just a day after we spotted a Nokia C7 at a Nokia showroom, we clapped eyes on the X5 – Nokia’s social networking QWERTY slider. While the salesperson did not let us take any pictures, what we can tell you is that the phone is very much available over the country at most Nokia stores. The prices fluctuated between Rs 10,000 and Rs 10,500 at the three places we asked for the device. Mind you, we could find no indication of the price on Nokia India’s web page for the phone.

After twiddling with the phone for a few minutes, we must concede that it seems mightily impressive. In terms of design, we love the look and feel of the square-shaped handset and the different colours. The slide-out-from-under QWERTY, which is unusually spacious, seems fitting for texting freaks, and when you factor in the 5MP camera, Symbian Series 60 (3rd edition) – the same OS that is used in the E series, and unlimited music for a year from Ovi Music, the X5 seems remarkably substantial value for money. Of course, we will need a more detailed look at it to be able to say more and yes, we do wish it had GPS and Wi-Fi (and a bigger screen than the its 2.36 inch 320×240 affair), but even without it, this seems one heck of a device.

Which, again, makes us wonder why Nokia is not talking more about it.

Update: As the comments point, it does seem to have Wi-Fi, though the Nokia India page we saw doesn’t mention it in specs.
