You surely understand how difficult it is to manage your smartphone in rainy conditions. Now imagine the plight of people of who love to have some kind of outdoor activity in their daily lives or work in extreme weather conditions like the construction field.
There aren’t really a lot of reliable options (read cases) available in such situations. Now what if you own the iPhone 4 / 4S, the dilemma surely gets amplified here. The Capdase Weatherproof Pebbo case for the iPhone 4 / 4S is one of those rare all weather cases which promises to protect your case from dust, water shock and extreme temperature conditions.
Well we decided to take it for a ride to understand if it does the job and at the same time how well it maintains the ease of use and user experience of the smartphone.
For starters we reviewed the, Pebbo Carrying set which includes the Xplorer Weatherproof Case, Neck Strap and Belt Loop.
I’ll talk about all the three components here. The Neck strap seems sturdy enough and has good cushioning on the inside for it to be very comfortable to wear around the neck. The belt loop is also a handy addition which helps connect the neck strap and the case in a convenient manner.
Now moving on the Xplorer Weatherproof case, the first thing one would notice is that the case is really huge. It’s too large to comfortably hold in one hand, especially for people with small hands. Though, we loved the design of the case. Opening the case to insert the iPhone 4/ 4S is a breeze and there is no headache to ensure that the iPhone has been correctly inserted in the case, unlike most of the weatherproof cases.
More importantly, the case allows one access to all the important external functions on the iPhone, albeit the silent toggle key, which is not accessible. The touch experience on the screen is optimum and I felt no difference in performance as compared to interacting with the screen directly with no protective layer on. Even the camera performance remains the same, thanks to the “magic glass cover” used here.
Now the deal breaker for us was the volume level of the call speaker on the Xplorer case. I could barely hear the other person on a call using the case in outdoor conditions. This is something Capdase needs to address asap, as it virtually renders the phone useless for making calls when outdoors.
And as we said earlier, the Capdase Xplorer Weatherproof case is a bit on the heftier side as well, restricting its usage only to when you are in extreme weather conditions or on some outdoor activity.
Here is a quick video review of the Xplorer Weatherproof Pebbo Case:
Though in our drop tests, the case performed well under splashes and moderate shower conditions. Also it can easily take falls of up to 3 feet. Unlike other cases, the Capdase Xplorer Weatherproof Pebbo Case addresses most of the user experience issues common to all other such cases. But the call speaker audibility issue is why we will stop just short of recommending this case to you.
The Capdase Xplorer Weatherproof Pebbo Case is compatible with both, the iPhone 4 & 4S and is currently available for Rs. 2500 in India with stuffcool.com.
