Samsung is announcing its 10.1 inch display at the SID Display Week 2011 next week. This display has a 2560 x 1600 resolution which is much higher than what we have heard on any sub 12″ product in the market. It has a 300 PPI display which is close to the retina display resolution of iPhone 4.
It also have a new technology called PenTile in which the display can operate with 40 % less power.
It was rumored that Apple wanted to used this same technology on iPad 2 but couldn’t able to do it. So it looks like Apple will employ this display on iPad3. The 2560 x 1600 display resolution is also more than the current iPad 1024 x 768 display, with just a 0.4″ increase in size (10.1″ vs 9.7″ on the iPad).
Samsung has just announced this display and there is no indication when it will hit the market. Apple might use similar technology in future iPad but Samsung would sure like to get this on their Galaxy Tab lineup. Android tablets currently have a resolution of 1200×800 and thats still more than the 1024×768 on the iPad.
Having used both the platforms on a tablet, we know that its not the hardware but the software that makes maximum difference!
