Skype has finally released a new version of its App for iOS devices that allow users to make two way video calls to all your Skype contacts. The new version is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th generation and devices running iOS 4.0 or above. On devices which do not have a front facing camera, you can still do one way video calls. In fact, you can now also call your Skype contacts that are logged in on desktop computers using Skype for Windows 4.2 and above, Skype for Mac 2.8 and above, Skype for Linux and the ASUS videophone.
With the arrival of Video calling, Skype now sees it directly competing with Apple’s FaceTime which sort of does a similar thing. While FaceTime is limited to calls just between iOS devices, Skype users would still have larger user base of contacts to connect with – especially since you can make an iPhone to Mac Video call for example. Oh, and yes, you can make calls in both portrait and landscape modes!
Along with Video calls, it obviously supports free audio calling to all your Skype contacts. Head here for more info (iTunes link)
