Nokia seems to be working on taking wireless charging mainstream. They have been spotted running a trial at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in San Francisco where they integrate coffee tables with Qi wireless chairing pads. I can’t remember the number of times I have been at a coffee shop after office with a low battery sign on my smartphone. Hunting for seats that has a charging port nearby and borrowing a MicroUSB charger from the coffee shop staff isn’t always doable. I think, Nokia is thinking in the right direction with these Qi compatible charging pads inside a coffee shop.
After years of wireless charging gimmick (yes I own a Palm Pre Plus with the Touchstone), it seems that there is good utility to look forward to. Hope fully we would see this being adopted more widely and provide some respite to smartphone owners suffering from poor battery life.
