Apple CEO Tim Cook, who made a much publicized visit to Apple’s manufacturing (and of late Sales) hub China back in March 2012 is back in the country again. Tim Cook is reportedly in China to hold talks with the Government of China for an informal talk about technology in the country.
Apple, which had a delayed start in China with the iPhone is now experiencing excellent sales across the country with the recently launched iPhone 5 literally flying off shelves in the country. The first weekend alone saw over 2 million iPhones being sold in the country. Of late, Apple has also been consolidating its retail presence in the country thanks to the resurgent sales figures of the iPhone. The company also opened new stores in various cities across the country as a part of this move.
Apple had also a few weeks ago, soon after the initial sales report in China came out stressed on the importance it holds for the China. They had released a statement back then which read; “China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products.”
In the meantime, Cook has had meetings with the head of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Miao Wei. It is unclear as to what discussions the two had – but there is no denying the fact that Apple is now well focused on the Chinese market.
China has always been a controversial issue for Apple. The company came under extensive criticism following emergence of reports that talked about harsh working conditions inside factories that manufacture the iPhone and other Apple products in Chinese factories. Apple has since then gone on to address the issue and the bad press and the controversy seems to have died down.
