After months – sorry years of speculation, what was once thought to be unthinkable has happened. Verizon has just confirmed what was almost confirmed since the past week or so. The CDMA iPhone exists, and it’s coming to Verizon in February.
In a change, the new product (not really) was launched jointly by Lowell McAdam of Verizon and Tim Cook of Apple Inc. Also, notable was the fact that Apple actually allowed Verizon to take over the reins over the launch – that’s quite atypical of Apple.
The iPhone 4 would be available for existing Verizon customers starting February 3. For the lesser mortals, they need to wait till February 10 2011. The CDMA iPhone has been competitively priced at $199 for the 16GB, $299 for 32GB version. This price includes support for up to 5 mobile hotspots.
We will have more news on this as the story breaks.
