In a world where you have been used to seeing apps being released first either for Android or iOS, folks over at WordPress has surprised us all by releasing a full-fledged WYSIWYG app for the WebOS platform. If you happen to be a blogger you might be aware of the travails of mobile blogging. Even though there are apps for smartphones and tablets, they leave a lot to be desired and are way behind the standard browser based editor. Anyway, that is what seems to have been changed with this new WordPress app.
Currently, this only supports HP’s WebOS based tablet, the TouchPad and claims to be the first WYSIWYG blog editor app for the platform. This app gets all the features you expect from a full-fledged blogging app – albeit in a way that is optimized for use on a tablet. I have been using the WordPress app on the Motorola Xoom, and I look forward to getting back on the PC since the experience is irritating.
The new app has a full visual editor for formatting text and inserting images or embedding media. It also supports WebOS’ sliding panel interface as well as “cards” support. This allows for seamless flipping between various areas of the app. It also lets you comment and moderate comments. Another feature is instant notifications regarding new comments. Wordpress has revealed that a version that supports all devices running WebOS 3.0 would be announced soon.
Now we wonder how far on the horizon is an Android and iOS iteration of the same app!
