Apple’s much awaited WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) ended earlier today and it has heralded the arrival of a bunch of new Apple products and services that will surely blow you away. Let’s take a quick look at one of the most important launches at the recently concluded event.
The MacBook Pro, Now with Retina Display
Perhaps the biggest announcement of the day is the redesigned, reworked and re-engineered, brand new version of Apple’s MacBook Pro. The professional notebook has taken a quantum leap over its predecessors when it comes to the sheer amount of tech it manages to cram inside that thin and light shell.
The highlight of the new MacBook Pro is its retina display. That’s right, Apple has put the retina moniker even on its laptops now. What replaces the 1440*900 pixel display of its predecessor is an absolutely brilliant 2800*1800 pixel, 15.4 inch display with a pixel density of 220PPI. I am sure if you get one of these, your so called HDTV would get a serious inferiority complex.
Under the hood, the MacBook Pro gets Intel’s fastest Ivy Bridge processors with the top end version getting the one that runs at 2.7 GHZ with quad cores. The graphics would be handled by Nvidia’s Kepler GeForce GT 650 M which replaces AMD’s graphics solution seen in the previous gen Mac pro’s.
The Macbook Pro also does away with hard disk drives and gets SSD-only storage with 768 GB capacity in the top-end variant. In the entry level variant you have to be satisfied with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD storage capacity. The top end variant gets 16 GB of RAM.
Connectivity options are staggering. There are two Thunderbolt I/O ports, an HDMI port and a USB 3.0 port. Apple has skipped the Ethernet and optical drives completely as these are already considered obsolete. The new MacBook line up starts at $2200 and goes up to an insane $3750 for the top of the line variant!
