Apple has rolled out a quick update for iOS. After being under fire for privacy concerns with location tracking on the iPhone and other iOS handhelds, Apple had last week given out comments to explain the situation. And to make sure that the issue isn’t dragged any further, here comes an update.
iOS v 4.3.3 limits the amount of location data saved to 1 week (instead of a few MB’s worth of data before) and stops caching location if location service is switched off by the user (deletes existing data as well). The location data that was being saved by iOS was also said to be backed up on iTunes when the user synced. Apple has stopped syncing this data with the new update. With iOS 4 Apple also plans to encrypt the location data saved on the handset.
So you no longer need unofficial hacks to protect your location data, all you need to do is upgrade to iOS 4.3.3 🙂
I can’t wait to get home & plug in my device for this update. I also read that the update improves battery life which is always good.
